I'm glad to hear that you'll be in the classroom again.
I hear you about non-academic jobs. I worked in so many, some of which were interesting because of the people. But the jobs themselves were always very low-paying and, at times, physically exhausting (the worse one was at a winery: I had to clean those huge fermentation tanks). On the other hand, my job at a county library gave me time to read (which seems to be a luxury now).
